H1N1 FLU: NGOs lambast Health Ministry

THE Health Ministry has to investigate all reported cases of Influenza A (H1N1) whether it affects Malaysians or foreigners.

This is what NGOs say in the light of Malay Mail's report that some 1,000 detainees at the KLIA Immigration detention centre in Sepang have been locked down folllowing the death of a 35-year-old Togolese from H1N1 on Tuesday.

The lack of speedy action by the Health Ministry has raised the ire of human rights activists, who feel that more urgency is needed from the Ministry on the flu, which is a global pandemic.

Health Department director general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican admitted at a Press conference that he was not notified about the inmate's death. He was quoted as saying: "I can only comment on that once I get confirmation on the matter." (see accompanying story). - + selanjutnya
