Call to review police ops
KUALA LUMPUR: MIC vice-president Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam has urged the police force to review their operational procedures when engaging with suspected criminals, to avoid being perceived negatively by the public.
While recognising the right of the police to act in self-defence and to protect the lives of innocent bystanders during such operations, the Human Resources Minister said it would be good for the long-term if some of the current provisions and tactics in the police procedures in taking on suspected criminals are reviewed.
"The incident of (the police) shooting suspects is damaging the image of the police force and there is a need to review its operational procedures so that this kind of incidents can be reduced," he said yesterday when commenting on the shooting of five suspected robbers in Klang last Sunday.
