NGOs blast poor response to Penan rapes

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 — The Penan Support Group (PSG), a coalition of several human rights NGOs, today criticised the recently-released report by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry-led task force on the alleged rape of Penan women in Sarawak.

PSG noted that while the task force has identified poorly planned development programmes as a cause of the problems faced by Penans, it did not recommend concrete steps to address the current situation.

The group expressed concern that without identifying the larger problem of poor development, Penan and other indigenous communities will remain vulnerable to a host of sexual and human rights abuse. - + selanjutnya
