Umno Youth claims phantom voters in Permatang Pasir

BUTTERWORTH, Aug 17 – Umno Youth has claimed the existence of phantom voters in the Permatang Pasir state constituency which is having a by-election on Aug 25.

Its chief Khairy Jamaluddin said he had received reports on a number of Malay voters whose listed home addresses were actually occupied by Chinese families, and vice versa.

Khairy who had earlier chaired an Umno Youth meeting here, said he would gather enough evidence and bring up the matter with the Election Commission for action to be taken.

He said since the last general election, there were 1,000 more voters registered in Permatang Pasir, which he regarded as abnormal.

The by-election is set to be a straight fight between BN’s Rohaizat Othman, a syariah legal adviser, and Mohd Salleh Man of PAS. – Bernama
