Malacca first state govt to contribute to disaster fund
MALACCA, Mon: Saddened by the plight of the survivors Typhoon Ketsana survivors in Vietnam and the Philippines; tsunami survivors in Samoa and earthquake survivors in Padang, Sumatra; the State Government contributed RM10,000 to the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd's Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima.
The Malacca Government is the first State Government to contribute towards this fund.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said that the contribution came from the State's own disaster fund which was set up, today, to help the natural disaster victims in the region.
"This is a great tragedy and we want to do our part in helping the people affected by the typhoon, tsunami and earthquake," he said after handing over the cheque for RM10,000 to the New Straits Times Malacca Staff Correspondent Jason Gerald John at the Seri Negeri, here, today. - + selanjutnya
