Selangor to deploy 800 traffic cops

SHAH ALAM: At least 800 traffic officers will be conducting road safety operations at 52 accident-prone areas throughout Selangor during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.

Most of the areas are located in Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam, said Selangor Traffic and Public Order Chief Supt Che Hussin Omar after a road safety campaign organised by the Selangor Road Safety Department at the Batu Tiga toll plaza yesterday.

Supt Che Hussin said 1,313 accidents had been recorded from Sunday to Wednesday. Seven people were killed.

The police, he said, had issued 11,306 summonses to motorists for various traffic offences during that period.

He said the road safety operation would continue till Sept 27.

“Traffic will increase drastically in the next three days especially towards Teluk Intan and Ipoh,” he said.

Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, who was also at the event, said the state had distributed free helmets in rural areas through the Road Safety Council in its effort to reduce fatal accidents. - + selanjutnya
