Release the money, Federal Government urged

GEORGE TOWN: Penang has yet to receive its share of the RM50mil grant from the Federal Government to carry out its conservation projects.

Claiming that Malacca had already gotten its half of the grant, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng urged the Government to release the RM25mil share alloted to Penang.

“I hope the Federal Government will be fair and release the funds promised to us soon,” he told a press conference Thursday.

The Government had allocated the grant to the two states following the listing of George Town and Malacca as a joint Unesco World Heritage Site.

On a separate issue, Lim reminded heritage site owners that they would need the approval of the state government before they could be listed under the National Heritage Act 2005 as a national heritage. - + selanjutnya
