Nik Aziz to Umno: Thanks, but no thanks

KOTA BAHARU, Sept 8 — PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said there was no need for discussions with Umno as long as the party’s struggle was not for the Islamic cause.

He regarded a statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Kuala Krai yesterday on his willingness to discuss with PAS issues concerning Islam as an old issue and an attempt to play up the issue for the forthcoming election.

Nik Aziz, who is Kelantan Menteri Besar, also doubted the federal government’s sincerity in helping the state.

“If (Najib) wants to protect Islam, it’s better that Umno changes the party struggle from nationalism to fighting for Islam. Then only will it reflects + selanjutnya
