PAS urges BN’s ‘tainted’ candidate to withdraw
[...] Mahfuz claimed this was even admitted by Penang Umno chief and party vice-president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, who told him personally that the controversy surrounding their choice of candidate would be morally problematic.
Zahid was reported as defending Rohaizat’s innocence, saying BN would go down to the ground to explain to the Permatang Pasir electorates “what had really happened.”
Rohaizat was confirmed by the Bar Council today to have been found guilty under the Legal Profession Act over a breach of trust involving a sum of RM140,000 belonging to a rubber plantation workers co-operative.
Asked if PAS and Pakatan Rakyat would use this as fodder for their campaign, Mahfuz agreed but stressed that it would not be in the form of personal attack against their rival.
“It’s not about character assassination, it’s not a personal attack. It is a matter of principle. If BN had fielded a different candidate, it would have been a different case,” said Mahfuz. - + selanjutnya
