Party reps allowed to witness balloting at army camps
PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission will distribute ballot papers on Oct 7 to 4,604 army personnel for the Bagan Pinang by-election to allow postal voting the next day.
This was confirmed by EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar who also said that this time around, contesting political parties would be allowed to appoint a representative each to witness balloting and counting of postal votes at army camps.
Eight stations would be set up to facilitate voting, Wan Ahmad said adding the decision to allow party representatives was made recently as the EC has nothing to hide.
"Besides, we want to enhance transparency and get rid of allegations of EC being bias and pro-government as alleged by certain quarters, particularly opposition leaders."
Party representatives, however, must not "interfere" in the voting process.
"They are only allowed to sit in and witness the process, not to interfere or attempt to slow down the process. - + selanjutnya
