Hasan denies undermining panel

SHAH ALAM: A new crisis is brewing in the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government after Pas state executive councillor Datuk Dr Hasan Ali's call for Selcat to be revamped.

He said the members of the select committee on competency, accountability and transparency (Selcat) should not be politicians but ex-judges, former civil servants and reputed local leaders.

Hasan said he fully supports Selcat but is disappointed by the way some district officers were treated when they were called to testify on the disbursement of the RM500,000 annual allocation each assemblymen receives and how some previous Barisan Nasional assemblymen finished it within two months last year, just before the general election. All allocation requests must be approved by the district officers.

"They feel humiliated, that their image is tarnished. They were pounded with questions and the committee gave the district officers no room to give fair answers. They did not know what answers the committee was looking for," he said. - + selanjutnya
