Ex-veep: Samy Vellu at fault for comment
KUALA LUMPUR: A one-time comrade of Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said the MIC president should be held responsible for the "garland of slippers" comment during the party's general assembly last weekend.
Datuk V. Govindaraj, a former party vice-president who had shared the political and theatrical stages with Samy Vellu in their younger days, lodged a police report against Samy Vellu for allowing an MIC delegate to insult former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad with the remark.
"Having chaired the meeting, Samy Vellu holds the responsibility for the delegate's uncultured remark that a garland of slippers be placed on the former prime minister's picture," Govindaraj told the New Straits Times yesterday.
"As chairman of the meeting, Samy Vellu did not prevent the delegate from uttering the derogatory remark against such a highly distinguished leader." - + selanjutnya
