Another Kampung Lorong Buah Pala in the making

BUTTERWORTH: The Penang government is in for another headache as some 700 families living at the Rumah Hijau longhouses in Mak Mandin near here are refusing to relocate.

The residents at the long- houses said they did not want to move to low-cost flats as planned by the state government.

Instead, they are demanding for a low-cost house at the present site or RM100,000 compensation for each family.

The 245 house owners also expressed their unhappiness over statements by the state government that the residents had agreed to move out to the newly completed 18-storey low-cost flats at Taman Ampang Jajar, about two kilometres from their homes.

Residents claimed they were relocated to the present site when the state created the country's first industrial estate in Mak Mandin about 36 years ago. - + selanjutnya
